Аннотация
We analyze the cluster structure in large networks by means of clusters of exceedances regarding the influence characteristics of nodes. As the latter characteristics we use PageRank and the Max-Linear model and compare their distributions and dependence structure. Due to the heaviness of tail and dependence of PageRank and Max-Linear model observations, the influence indices appear by clusters or conglomerates of nodes grouped around influential nodes. The mean size of such clusters is determined by a so called extremal index. It is related to the tail index that indicates the heaviness of the distribution tail. We consider graphs of Web pages and partition them into clusters of nodes by their influence.

Our study employs the network approach to the problem of international migration. During the last years, migration has attracted a lot of attention and has been examined from many points of view. However, very few studies considered it from the network perspective. The international migration can be represented as a network (or weighted directed graph) where the nodes correspond to countries and the edges correspond to migration flows. The main focus of our study is to reveal a set of critical or central elements in the network. To do it, we calculated different existing and new centrality measures. In our research the United Nations International Migration Flows Database (version 2015) was used. As a result, we obtained information on critical elements for the migration process in 2013.

We consider an application of power indices, which take into account preferences of agents for coalition formation proposed for an analysis of power distribution in elected bodies to reveal most powerful (central) nodes in networks. These indices take into account the parameters of the nodes in networks, a possibility of group influence from the subset of nodes to single nodes, and intensity of short and long interactions among the nodes.

In the problem of aggregation of rankings or preferences of several agents, there is a well-known result that reasonable social ranking is not strategy-proof. In other words, there are some situations when at least one agent can submit insincere ranking and change the final result in a way beneficial to him. We call this situation manipulable and using computer modelling we study 10 majority relation-based collective decision rules and compare them by their degree of manipulability, i.e. by the share of the situation in which manipulation is possible. We found that there is no rule that is best for all possible cases but some rules like Fishburn rule, Minimal undominated set and Uncovered set II are among the least manipulable ones.

Аннотация
We study clusters of threshold exceedances caused by dependence in time series. The clusters are defined as conglomerates containing consecutive threshold exceedances of the series separated by return intervals with consecutive non-exceedances. We derive asymptotic distributions of the cluster and inter-cluster sizes for processes with the extremal index equal to zero, the asymptotic expectation of the inter-cluster size and an exponential rate of convergence of the distribution tail of the return interval between clusters to the stable distribution tail. Distributions of the cluster and inter-cluster sizes of ARMAX, MM and AR(1) processes are obtained.

Аннотация
An analysis of journals’ rankings based on five commonly used bibliometric indicators (impact factor, article influence score, SNIP, SJR, and H-index) has been conducted. It is shown that despite the high correlation, these single-indicator-based rankings are not identical. Therefore, new approach to ranking academic journals is proposed based on the aggregation of single bibliometric indicators using several ordinal aggregation procedures. In particular, we use the threshold procedure, which allows to reduce opportunities for manipulations.

The paper is devoted to caching of popular multimedia and Web contents in Internet. We study the Cluster Caching Rule (CCR) recently proposed by the authors. It is based on the idea to store only popular contents arising in clusters of related popularity processes. Such clusters defined as consecutive exceedances of popularity indices over a high threshold are caused by dependence in the inter-request times of the objects and, hence, their related popularity processes. We compare the CCR with the well-known Time-To-Live (TTL) and Least-Recently-Used (LRU) caching schemes. We model the request process for objects as a mixture of Poisson and Markov processes with a heavy-tailed noise. We focus on the hit probability as a main characteristic of a caching rule and introduce cache effectiveness as a new metric. Then the dependence of the hit probability on the cache size is studied by simulation.

The term “pattern” refers to a combination of values of some features such that objects with these feature values significantly differ from other objects. This concept is a useful tool for the analysis of behavior of objects in both statics and dynamics. If the panel data describing the functioning of objects in time is available, we can analyze pattern changing behavior of the objects and identify either well adapted to the environment objects or objects with unusual and alarming behavior.In this paper we apply static and dynamic pattern analysis to the analysis of innovative development of the Russian regions in the long run and obtain a classification of regions by the similarity of the internal structure of these indicators and groups of regions carrying out similar strategies
